ABOUT BRANDON

The Beginning

Brandon Saffold was born and raised in Cape May County, New Jersey, where he developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for his community. As a teenager, he worked as a host and banquet server at the Cape May Corinthian Yacht Club, gaining valuable experience in service and teamwork. He also worked part-time at Congress Hall as a banquet server.

After graduating from Lower Cape May Regional High School, Brandon made the decision to serve his country by joining the United States Coast Guard. His first assignment was on the Coast Guard Cutter Venturous in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he participated in critical missions, including drug enforcement, migrant interdictions, search and rescue operations, and hurricane relief efforts.

In 2017, Brandon was part of the first response team to Hurricanes Irma and Maria in Puerto Rico. During those challenging weeks, he earned the Humanitarian Service Medal and the Armed Forces Service Medal for his work in providing essential aid and assistance to those affected by the storms.

His Journey of Education

After completing his service in the Coast Guard, Brandon began his educational journey at St. Petersburg College in Clearwater, Florida, in 2021. Initially studying biomedical science with the aspiration of becoming a medical doctor, he developed a deep interest in politics during a mandated American Government course. This new passion for politics, fueled by his desire to make a difference in his community, led him to Princeton University, where he is currently studying Politics.

In 2022, Brandon was one of only 28 transfer students accepted to Princeton University, becoming the first Coast Guard Veteran Transfer Student at the institution. His time at Princeton has reinforced his dedication to public service and equipped him with the tools to better understand the political challenges we face today.

Understanding the Needs of South Jersey

As a lifelong resident of New Jersey's 1st Legislative District, Brandon has seen firsthand the challenges facing the community. From Cape May to Cumberland and Atlantic Counties, families are struggling to make ends meet. The rising cost of housing, the lack of accessible job opportunities, and the strain on healthcare and education systems are all critical issues that demand action. While he doesn’t claim to know all the struggles of every person in the district, Brandon is committed to listening and working tirelessly to ensure that South Jersey’s voices are heard in Trenton. He advocates for stronger job opportunities, better local infrastructure, and a sustainable future for the region.

A Vision for a Stronger South Jersey

Brandon is not just a candidate; he is one of the people. He is fighting for a South Jersey where no one is left behind—where working families, veterans, and the most vulnerable have the support they need to succeed. He believes that the people of South Jersey deserve better, and he is determined to ensure their concerns are at the forefront of the conversation. His campaign is about listening to the needs of the community, standing up for them, and fighting for results that truly make a difference.

Together with his running mate, Carolyn Rush, Brandon is running to challenge the status quo and bring real, meaningful change to South Jersey. This campaign is not about the political elite; it’s about everyday people, like him and Carolyn, taking control and demanding a government that works for the people—not the other way around.

4th Generation USCG Veteran

My decision to join the Coast Guard was more than a career choice; it was a calling rooted in family history. I am a fourth-generation Coast Guard member, inspired by the legacy of my great-grandfather, who bravely served during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. My grandfather on my mothers side and father continued this tradition, serving our nation with distinction. Collectively, my family has over 100 years of Coast Guard service, protecting our shores and safeguarding our values. It is this sense of duty and honor that motivates me to serve the people of New Jersey’s 1st Legislative District.
